All about upcoming projects, and what I'm doing right now!
Since beginning my journey in sound-engineering I have progressed through to becoming a much more assured member of the Live-Events sector, my affinity for Visuals and a fully-encompassed show alongside great-sounding music has led me to working consistently with promoters and bands, loving every second.
Whether it's making the most out of a little, or taking something from good to great, the hundreds of bands I have worked with have helped me to unlock energy at even the smallest of gigs.
And yes, this is me (above/top left) doing just that (I set up the entire rig at my University Leavers ball).
RJ, in many ways, has been my creative outlet for fun, non-critical, and ultimately casual music, I've worked on a variety of Demo's, always emphasising putting the raw idea into the world without forcing myself to look through the lens of my career.
René, Joy is by far the most cathartic project I'm part of, playing with some of my close friends, looking to have fun on stage.
I don't have a long-term plan or a real want to make this a commercial project, but it's worth mentioning as I have had some core musical experiences playing with the band.
A selection of the places I've been lucky enough to experience!
Mixing 21 bands in a weekend for the first time was a challenge I accepted with open arms (and a lot of gaffa tape).
Whilst not being the biggest festival in the world, international bands were rife - and making sure that both my time-management and my people skills were on point was a key aspect of the weekend.
My Highlight of the weekend was Fantazmaz (brazilian punk) straight into Jades (french hard rock). A thoroughly enjoyable Saturday evening.
Big Mullins Promotions
A small project started because a mates band wanted to come on tour to Brighton suddenly led to a whole host of ideas. Myself and Charlie Miller put together an incredible bill, and my god the music is good.
You'll have to come see it some time.
The Great Escape 2024
My first festival working a stage as a Patch Engineer was an intense, gruelling May weekend, but had some real bright moments such as mixing Earth Tongue (pictured).
Consistent Client - An Alternative Gathering
An Alternative Gathering is a well-known local promotions company in Brighton/Sussex, known for its heavy music gigs. I have worked consistently with Andy Cavendish on the events located at The Pipeline, helping the venue to become a much more enjoyable experience for the listener.
2000Trees 2023
A truly awesome experience from start to finish!
The early starts and late nights were worth it, especially when working in conjunction with some really great bands and experiencing the turbulent, dynamic pace of an annual location festival.
The Great Escape 2023
I was lucky enough to work throughout the Great Escape 2023 in three brilliant venues - Waterbear Venue, Patterns, and The Hope and Ruin
ArcTanGent 2023
Some big, big highlights of the year happened while working ATG, the diversity of the music being played and the passion of my fellow crew was a brilliant way to end my summer, encapsulating everything I love about festivals.
It's well-established that I am an avid DIY music enthusiast, and Gigs in questionable locations are always a favourite for me. "When in rome" might as well mean "when in a 2x3m room with inadequate air conditioning and a fridge" because weirdly that's where I always seem to end up.
Thanks to playing the previous Flat Gig, put on by the wonderful people over there, I was asked to lend an ear or two in the latest iteration in order to keep the stage running and sounding somewhat acceptable (for what is essentially a basement show with 0 budget).
This year was yet again unforgettable!
When you're left in an interesting predicament, with bands dropping out and things happening left and right, sometimes you've got to really force through some of your ideas and make sure an event goes ahead.
This gig was something I didn't at all expect to be running point on, especially considering I was initially just meant to be playing it, however quickly I became an integral member of the team, being first contact with Artist-Liason, Technical planning and working out the entirety of the financials behind the night.
Had a bunch of fun playing, planning and mixing this gig(I did take home a small chunk of the money, thankfully), although maybe next time I'll only do a couple of those things!
A selection of work I have finished
It's no secret that I love the people over at Chagrin, and over a pint I might even joke about how I offered to record and EP for them free of charge!
After finally nailing them down for a recording session on 6th March, we went to the studio and made stuff happen!
Release date for their Debut Single "Without You" is yet to be decided, but when it hits the shelves I'll be posting it everywhere - keep an eye out!
Stranded at Sea is an Immersive Audio-Visual proof-of-concept. (Wear headphones for best experience!).
The piece was created for a proposal for an Immersive, Live-Performed, installation. The envisioned piece would have a top-down projector display as well as an Ambisonics Immersive speaker-system allowing for a two-person performance and audio-spatialisation, controlling the Visuals and the Audio separately yet collaboratively.
From a Technical perspective, this project was incredibly fulfilling, It introduced me to midi-controlled live visuals with Resolume, something I am immensely interested having recently graduated from the visual elements of MAX - however allowed me to have an incredible amount of modularity as well as control over the performance.
My first experiences of Immersive audio and especially binaural integration throughout this project were incredibly fulfilling and I am excited to work on more similar - and perhaps more outwardly expansive projects in the future.
Although this Project will not be put into an installation in its current form, It has taught me a great deal about the skills I need to go forward and be more expansive in this field!
One of the most productive Baileys-induced evenings I have ever had!
Megs needed a couple of high-quality demos produces on some of her more personal songs, so we sat down and recorded some genuinely inspiring, heartfelt, and beautiful songs.
Getting her performance into the recorded realm was a treat, and getting to direct some of the brilliant vocal lines we came up with in that session was nothing short of an eargasm!
